In this story Medusa was once a beautiful girl. Medusa's
hair was golden and her skin perfect. In some stories she
had wings of gold as well. Her parents are unclear, she
could have been the only mortal gorgon daughter born to
Echidna and Typhon. Or she could have been born to the
human world. If that was the case her parents were Ceto
and Phorcys. Either way at first she was incredibly
beautiful.
Medusa was also a priestess of Athena. As a priestess of
Athena she swore to always remain pure. But that was a
problem because of her beauty. She was always being
chased and courted by gods. Poseidon was a never ending
problem. Her golden hair and stunning face made it
impossible for the sea god to stay away. Poseidon came to
Athena’s temple. It is unclear who the victim was in this
event, but either way Medusa got pregnant.
When Athena found out they desecrated her temple she
flew into blind rage and to make sure she never gave birth
or had a man court her again. Athena cursed Medusa with
the body of a dragon and hair of snakes. Athena also added
the curse that if you look into Medusa's eyes you would
turn to stone.
