Medusa is one of the three gorgons. Her sisters are Stheno and Euryale. Out of the three Medusa was the only one who was mortal and the only one who was beautiful. Gaia is commonly associated as the mother of the Gorgons. Medusa also could have been the daughter of Phorkys and Keto. Who in turn were the children of Gaia, Mother Earth, and Okeanos, the Ocean.
In some but very few myths indicate that she might have been married to Perseus who was also her killer. When Perseus chopped off her head out sprung the Pegasus and Chrysto who was the hero of the golden sword. In Ancient Greek mythology Perseus was the son of Zeus not Poseidon.
Medusa had her beautiful hair turned into snakes and her gorgeous blue eyes made to turn whoever looks into them to stone. All this was a result of Athena's vengeful curse that was explained on the story page.
